What is your first impression of Malaysia? Is this your first visit to another country outside Kazakhstan? How do you rate your hotel accommodation?

Yes,this is my first visit to Malaysia previously I’ve visited Poland. My first impression of Malaysia is that its very hot, in Kazakhstan its 10 degrees at the moment, so it’s a very dramatic and sudden climate change for us. I’m surprised how good the road network system is outside the main towns and cities. I notice that there are roads everywhere, which is very good and convenient. People here are very kindly and are always smiling and almost everyone speaks English so its easier to communicate even if you only know a little of the English language. When I ask people a question they always try to help you. In Kazakhstan we don’t eat spicy food so we have to ask before we choose to eat, but apart from that I really enjoy the food. The hotel accommodation is good 8/10.

Why Chose to come on this program?

I had the choice to go to Kyrgyzstan or possibly Moscow, but I wanted to come to Malaysia to have a better understanding of the culture.

What is your opinion of the supply chain games? What do you think to the style of teaching for this program?

The Beer game is very interesting because it makes you switch on your brain to learning and understanding sincethe game forces you to make predictions for the future, just like the real world, It’s like life on a table. I really enjoyed the supply chain games and felt they would be of great benefit to me in my career. In my opinion the games have many benefits, it’s much better than just sitting listening to a standard lecture. Playing the game and competing with each other is a very good way of learning. The style of teaching is well organised and very good; I much prefer this more interactive style of teaching.I think that finance people should know a little about everything connected to finance, this includes supply chains, therefore I believe this program is very relevant and can be applied directly to finance, although I think there could have been a bigger finance relation ship within the supply chain showing the overall flow of cash.

What were your expectations of this program before you came to MISI?

I thought that university campus would be bigger, but the facilities are really good with Auditorium, study rooms, convenient team working areas and well equipped classrooms.I expected something unusual and different that we can learn and I wasn’t disappointed. I didn’t know what supply games were before I came here. This program has definitely lived up to my expectations.

What improvements if any would you make to the program?

The Schedule is to short. I think two weeks would be much better. It gives some students more time to learn and in some cases time to catch up.

What are your lasting impressions of MISI and the program?

I would commend other students to come to MISI, I very much liked the whole experience. The people are very courteous and its a great place for sharing knowledge.

What is your impression of Malaysia? Is this your first visit to another country outside Kazakhstan? How do you rate your accommodation?

Yes this is my first visit to Malaysia. Previously I’ve visited Hungary & Pakistan. My first impression of Malaysia was when I walked outside the airport, it was unbelievably hot and I noticed it was so green with plants and trees. In Kazakhstan right now its winter, snowing and very cold, so the immediate change takes some getting used to, but now after a couple of days I really like it. I Like Malaysian food it’s always fresh and light, In Kazakhstan the meals are made with many oils and lots of meat so it’s very heavy. In Malaysia its vegetables, fruit, rice, which I really enjoy. The people in Malaysia are very friendly and helpful. The accommodation is OK for a three star hotel 6/10. My only comment is that with every meal including breakfast there’s rice, which to us is very strange.

Why did you choose to come on this program?
Has the program met your expectations?

I chose this program because I wanted to visit Malaysia. I also thought the program would be good because it would be taught in English, which would help me to learn and develop my language skills. This program is very different from what I expected, I thought that it would be more finance driven, never the less I now know a lot about logistics and supply chains which I didn’t know before.

What is your opinion of the supply chain games?

At first it was more difficult to understand than I expectedespecially the beer game, moving the chips, recording data and continually thinking and concentrating and as the game moves faster and faster it forces you to keep up with the other groups. Before coming to MISI I didn’t know what supply chains really were, now I know that its much more than just logistics, and I feel much more confident knowing how supply chain work.I liked the method in which the lessons are given, and if you focus and pay attention it isn’t really hard to understand. The games are entertaining, its fun and you learn many things at the same time.

What is your impression of MISI?

I like the whole concept of MISI very much, I like the architecture of MISI building its very interesting. The lecturers are very good andthe learning experience is fun with lots of interaction, which is very different from our country. The facilities are also excellent.

What improvements if any would you make to the program?

We arrived at 7.30 am Monday morning after an eight hour difficult fight, where we couldn’t sleep. We were taken to the hotel and then started at MISI midday, when we were too tired to concentrate. I think that it would be better to fly on Sunday ready to start the classon Monday. I also think that the program should be at least 7 dayswith 5 days of learningand one or two free days for adventureso we canhave a better understanding of the culture. Maybe the classes should be between 9am and 2pm to allow us more time to rest and explore.

What are your lasting impressions that you will take away from MISI and your visit here?

“Zamechatelno” (замечательно) Awesome, Outstanding, because of the studies and the whole experience.

What is your impression of Malaysia? Is this your first visit to another country outside Kazakhstan? How do you rate your accommodation?

Yes this is my first visit to Malaysia; previously I have travelled to Turkey and Ukraine.I think Malaysia is a very comfortable country to live in, Beautiful and warm the food is a little bit too spicy for me apart from that I really love it here. I was given the opportunity to visit several other countries but I chose Malaysia because of the weather, cost and to learn about a new culture. With our hotel accommodation, nobody promised us a 5 star hotel, the hotel is 3 star rating with all the necessities and its clean and tidy , I rate it needs 8/10.

Has the program met your expectations?

Originally I thought we were coming to study Islamic finance. When I came here although I new what the word “supply” meant, I didn’t know what “supply chain” meant, and from the program I have learnt the meaning and now it all makes sense. MISI is really new and beautiful. In our country the buildings are really old.

What is your opinion of the supply chain Games?

I think the games are very interesting; I enjoyed the whole learning process and especially the mobile game, I thought it was very interactive but I needed more time to concentrate and think how it should be best played especially when you’re responsible for your actions as part of a team. This is a very good accurate business plan and was very enjoyable. MISI lecturers speak slower to help us understand better.

Was the language a barrier?

No, I learnt English in special classes in Kazakhstan; I understand most of the English accents but not the Scottish accentas it’s out of my hearing and understanding range. This program has also helped me toimprove my comprehension and grammar, and of course the interpreter has enabled me to pick up the meaning of many other new words.

What improvements if any would you make to the program?

It’s a really good experience for me, especially the cultural experience. I would have liked to have read much more information on the program before coming to MISI so that I could have prepared in advance.

What are your lasting impressions that you will take away from MISI and your visit here?

Now I have far more understanding of supply Chain Management, and also a greater understanding of Malaysian culture.

Is this your first visit to Malaysia? What are your first impressions?

Yes this is my first time travelling outside Kazakhstan, our traditions are different and it is a marvelous experience to come to Malaysia and see another culture. I learnt to speak English so that I can connect with other countries, so for me it’s really good that everybody here speaks English. Malaysia is a perfectly good country and MISI perfectly designed and organized to give specialist needs in practical supply chain knowledge than other universities.

Why Chose to come on this program?

I chosethis program to learn new ideas in education, although I was told before I came to MISI that we would be listening to lectures about new programs, so it was really a pleasant surprise when we started learning about supply chain and decision making by way of the many practical games.

How did you find the Games? What did you think of the teaching method?

The mobile game was very interesting, I learnt how to sell goods to make profit, and how to control inventory, I wish there had been more finance terminology in the games. I thought the teaching method was very effective and I wish we had more time for practical experience. MISI teaching style is more effective than what we’re used to because MISI uses more practical exercises.

What improvements if any would you make to the program?

I felt that we needed more than one weekto really appreciate all that was being taught. I would have liked to learn more about the finance aspect and terminology within supply chains, I think that this would have excited us more as finance students. I am not so interested in delivery or distributors I’m more interested in the financial aspectswithin the supply chains.

What are your lasting impressions that you will take away from MISI and your visit here?

MISI is a very Innovative Institute. I would like to learn more about the MSc program offered here at MISI for my own personal development.

Is this your first visit to Malaysia? What are your first impressions?

No I was here 6 years ago as a tourist, It’s very much as I remember it, hot with friendly people and I think the economy is much better now, which makes it an attractive cost choice for our university and students.I notice that Malaysia is a very international country now which makes it difficult for me to differentiate the local people from the international people.

Are the supply chain games a good way to learn the fundamentals of supply chain?

Yes the games are a more efficient way of learning supply chain as students can understood much easier, they not only learn the fundamentals of supply chain but also marketing and decision making.

How was the teaching method on this program? What improvements if any would you make to the program?

The style of teaching is totally different compared to Kazakhstan. Ourfinance students are normally only using numbers, here at MISI the program uses games and graphs, I would have liked to see more numbers used relative to finance.I would like to have seen real costs for logistics operatingcompanies brought into the program showingtheir actual working costs, this would have been a great interest to my finance students.

What are your lasting impressions that you will take away from MISI and your visit here?
Would you recommend this program?

Yes I would definitely recommend the program, next time though I will suggest to my university that we are more selective with the students and prepare them for this program so that they’re fully aware of what to expect in terms of supply chain management.

I hope that MISI can work with our university much closer, and I am optimistic that we can bring students here for exchange programs, not just for a few days but maybe for up to one year. We do have students that can speak good English that could potentially come here on a long-term exchange program. Thank you MISI.

Is this your first visit to Malaysia what are your first impressions? How do you rate your hotel accommodation?

This is my first visit to Malaysia and I like everything about it, the sun the friendly people and even the spicy food. The hotel was very good and I rate it 9/10. No issues

Why Chose to come on this program?

I volunteered to come along on this program with my group of students from our university. When my students write their dissertation they now have the opportunity to choose supply chain management as a topic.

What is your opinion of the supply chain games?

The games are a very good way of learning. In our education system we have only theory without practice, so these games capture theory, practice and problem solving. I liked the Tower Game most of allsince it was more related to accountancy with real examples that we could see in action,I also think my students were more interested because of the numbers involved.

Has the program met your expectations? Was the language a barrier?

For me I asked our students from the previous MISI program what to expect, so I there weren’t any big surprises. I think the interpreters did a good job, because the lecturers spoke slowly and the terminology wasn’t that difficult, to understand.

What improvements if any would you make to the program?

I don’t think this program was long enough. I feel it should have been at least seven days with a cultural day on the first and last day of the program. It’s a good program but I would have liked to seen more accounting and finance in the games.

Would you recommend this program to other students and to your university?

I will most definitely be recommending this program to other students, and hope that my university will select me to return to MISI with the next batch. Please put in a good word for me!!!
